European Union

The European Union (EU) is a supranational and intergovernmental union of 27 democratic member states in Europe. It was established under that name by the Treaty on European Union (The Maastricht Treaty) in 1992. It forms the three pillar framework and includes the European Economic Community, a limited Common Foreign and Security Policy, and a limited Police and Judicial Co-operation in criminal matters.
